[Cable Network News] The Teliri cable vessel owned by Elettra, the Italian subsidiary of Orange Group, the world’s leading telecommunications service provider, has begun to deploy the METISS submarine cable system.

 

According to reports, the system landed in Madagascar's Fort Dauphin early last week, and deployment will continue until August this year.

According to reports, the METISS submarine cable system will connect South Africa, Madagascar, Reunion and Mauritius, with a total length of about 3200 kilometers. The Alcatel Submarine Network (ASN) is responsible for the construction and the design capacity is up to 24Tbps.

The submarine cable project was initiated by the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) and received financial support from the European Union and the French Development Agency (Afd).

The telecom operators involved in the construction of this project include Telma and Blueline in Madagascar, Emtel and CEB FiberNET in Mauritius, Zeop and SFR in Reunion and Canal + Telecom in France.
