[Cable News] The New Caledonia Post and Telecommunications Office (OPT-NC) on the South Pacific Island has announced that it has selected the Alcatel Undersea Network (ASN) to build and install a new international seabed connecting Fiji An optical cable (called Gondwana-2) and an island network called Picot-2 connect Lifou, Mare, Iles des Pins and Grande Terre.
In March 2019, the New Caledonia Post and Telecommunications Office launched the bidding process for two submarine cable systems with a view to providing more network capacity and flexibility for the existing Gondwana-1 cable system. Noumea of Lidonia connects to Sydney (Australia) and expands the domestic Picot-1 system.
According to the plan, the Gondwana-2 submarine cable system is a single fiber pair to connect Nouville in New Caledonia to the Fiji landing battle Suva.
In addition, the system also plans to build a branch to Vanuatu to provide a total capacity of 200Gbps.
According to reports, the contract is valued at approximately US $ 4.3 million and is scheduled to be completed in early 2022.
