[Cable Network News] The Uzbekistan government recently announced two new solar project plans for the deployment of 1GW of solar power generation capacity.

It is reported that these two solar projects have also received financing support from the Asian Development Bank.

Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy said on Thursday that the country will hold a tender for the second phase of the Sheraton at the beginning of next year, which will increase the existing plan of the Sheraton in Surkhandarya region by 300 MW. Currently, the final round of bidding for Phase I of Sheraban is underway, and the bidding will start on March 15, 2021, with a scale of no less than 200 MW.

The second phase of the photovoltaic (PV) park will be installed near the first phase of Sherabad and connected via a 52-kilometer transmission line that will be connected to the 220 kV substation in Surkhan. The capacity of the power station will be between 150 MW and 300 MW, depending on the results of the first phase of the tender. The total installed capacity of the two phases will reach 500 MW.
In addition, Uzbekistan will start a 500 MW solar project, which will be Uzbekistan's third solar PPPs project. The project will be launched in the first quarter of next year and will be divided into three phases. It will be tendered by private partners under the design, construction, financing, operation, and maintenance (DBFOM) model, which also includes energy storage batteries.

Energy Minister Alisher Sultanov said that the project will start in February next year.

Uzbekistan’s goal is to increase its share of installed renewable energy installed capacity to 5 GW within the next 10 years. With the assistance of the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation (IFC), it is conducting a series of tenders that will add 1 GW of solar photovoltaic power generation.
